Je vis dans la rue,

Oui, je l’affirme

Et c’est pas de la frime,

Je vis dans la rue.

Nous sommes foule,

Foule d’anonymes,

Foule d’inconnus,

Mais foule quand même…

Parcouru d’un mouvement de houle,

Ayant nos propres hymnes,

Nous ne sommes plus perçus

Que comme des êtres de bohèmes.

Vous ne nous voyez pas,

Ou ne voulez plus nous voir,

Nous sommes ombres dans le noir,

Echos du bruit de vos pas…

Certes nous avons souvent

La bouteille à la main,

Mais qu’importe

Ca coupe la faim.

Souffrant du vent

Cachés dans le creux des portes ;

Nous nous battons pour vivre,

Et vous vous étonnez de nous voir vivre…

~Un artiste sans emploi~

This poem is taken out of a little collection created by unemployed people who write themselves these poems and then sell it in the street to earn something to live and also to show that they are able to do something and that they didn’t choose their situation, contrary to what some people believe.

This poem, written by a homeless, shows us the world through the eyes of a person directly concerned. Here, we discover his feelings, what he and those who live in the street around him suffer every day: look that other people address to them or the look that people don’t address to them. For others, they are "unknowns", "anonymous" but they stay men, with joys but especially with sufferings and distresses. Some people despise them when they see them with their bottle, but here, this man explains that this bottle is the only thing which helps them survive, that it is their only support, "it cuts hunger" and if the others despise this way of doing, homeless people don’t pay attention of that because all they want, is to stay alive. This man also explains and above all, that even if we ignore them or we pity them ("you are surprised seeing us living"), they will always fight against this despising society and especially against hard reality of life. Here, the author wanted to show society how homeless people lived rounded by all those despising looks, how they succeeded in confronting life in front of all difficulties that they find like the fact of not being considered as someone belonging to society.

This test has first attracted us because we have been touched by action of this people who try to survive at any cost. Then, the simplicity of the words employed to describe feelings of all the excluded is troubling because we were able to see that even with easy words, the author has been able to make his feelings show to those who didn’t know his problem but these words are emerging of a wounded soul which has learned to speak with simple words because we need only one word to call for help.
