Since it was founded in 1971 by a small group of French doctors, doctor without borders (médecins sans frontières) as ground to be the world's largest independent medical relief agency, with section in 19 countries and sending volunteers to over 80 countries annually.

What are MSF aims ?

Médecins sans frontières is the first non-military, non- governmental organization to specialize in emergency medical assistance. Their aims are : to reduce famine and poverty, to provide medical assistance and necessities to populations in deprived situation and to fight diseases like the tuberculosis, AIDS and STDs ( Sexually Transmissible Diseases ). In carrying out humanitarian assistance , MSF seeks also to raise owarerness.

Who are they ?

MSF is composed of 2500 volunteers working worldwide and the organization emphasies the need for independent humanitarian action in all of its actions. Most of MSF's members are doctors and health workers, but many other support professions contribute to MSF's smooth functioning.
A Volunteer have to :

- Offer assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters and to victims of armed conflict without discrimination and irrespective of race, religion ,creed or political affiliation .
- Be aware of the risks and dangers of the mission they undertake.
- Accept to have no right compensation for themselves or their beneficiaries other than that which Médecins sans frontières is able to afford them.

What problems do they face ?

Médecins sans frontières helps a lot of people to resolve their problems but helping them MSF meets its own problems. MSF sometimes meets resistance and become the target of attacks aimed against the Western presence. The number of volunteers, is one of the most important problems met by MSF, and is all the time insufficient. The money is also an important problem, and is raised by the donations.
